Wonnie “Nita” McGirt was born on November 27, 1941, in Rayville, Louisiana. She was the fourth of ten children to the late Reverend Ruben Gibson, Sr., and Katie Mae Gibson of Rayville, Louisiana. She was known for the love of her Lord Jesus Christ. She was loved by all who knew her and even those who did not.
She accepted Christ at an early age at Pleasant Grove No. 2 Baptist Church in Rayville, Louisiana, under the leadership of Reverend L. B. Brass. Where she was an active member in the choir and youth department. She later united with Rose of Sharon Baptist Church of Monroe, Louisiana, under the leadership of Reverend Dr. A. B. Davis-Johnson Sr. where she participated in the choir. There she remained until her transition.
She graduated from Eula D. Brittan High School in Rayville, Louisiana. She also attended Robinson Business College and Northeast Louisiana University where she earned her degree in business office management.
She worked at Richland Parish School Board in Rayville, Louisiana, as a secretary until she retired. She dutifully cared for family and others.
Wonnie was preceded by her late husband, James Manuel, Sr., four brothers, and two sisters.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories to her husband, Reverend Fred McGirt, one son, James Manuel, Jr., (Stephanie), two sisters, Hattie Broadway (Parnell) and Betty Hardy, one brother, Reverend Jimmy Ray Gibson, Sr., (Mable), five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
