Sister Willie Mae Walker was born December 16, 1956, in Learned, MS, to the late George West, Jr., and Inez McCrone West. She departed this life on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Houston Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX.
Willie Mae was baptized at an early age and was a member of the Ackland Creek Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor A.T. White. Later in her adult life, she joined and served faithfully at Grace Baptist Church. She attended school and graduated from Block High School in Jonesville, LA.
Willie was united in holy matrimony to Urlease Charles Walker, Jr., on July 3, 1976. To this union, three sons were born, the late Urlease Charles Walker II, Robert Bernard Walker, and Justin Jaron Walker.
Willie Mae was gifted in various job fields and was a “people person.” She was able to do anything she set her mind to do. She was gifted in hand-crafting, knitting, sewing, drawing, and cooking. She worked at Garan’s in Jonesville.
Willie Mae was a 2013 graduate of Northwestern State University in the field of nursing. She was employed by Catahoula Parish Schools and worked in the cafeteria at Harrisonburg High School and Jonesville Elementary up until her death.
Willie Mae leaves to cherish her memories: her husband of 46 years, Urlease Walker, Jr.; two sons, Robert Walker and Justin Walker, all of Jonesville; two grandsons, Rotavias Walker and Tyrhin Walker, both of Jena, LA; mother, Inez West of Jonesville; three brothers, Robert West, Eddie West (Patricia), both of Jonesville, and Curtis West of Flint, MI; four sisters, Evalene West, Gladys West, Alma Davis (Keith), all of Jonesville, and Betty Price (Eric) of Sicily Island; one great-aunt, Phala Nuckalls of Kankakee, IL, Je’Quilla Laday of Bunkie, LA, and Jackie Arrington of Jonesville, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, coworkers, and her church family.
Willie Mae was preceded in death by her father, George West, Jr.; son, Urlease Walker II; sister, Irene West; brother, George West III; and one granddaughter, Tinaja Walker.
