Willie L. Smith was born on December 4, 1963, to Louise Young and Oscar “Doug” Givens in Monroe, Louisiana. He graduated from Carroll High School in 1982. He was a drummer in the mighty Carroll High School Band (the best band in the land). The battle of the bands was his pastime, following the band from city to city. After graduating high school, he joined the U.S. Marine Corp in 1982-1986 as an E4, where he received an Honorable Discharge. His hobbies include fishing and cooking. Willie was a master in the kitchen and a pro on the grill. He loved to travel and was a die hard New Orleans Saints Fan.
He worked on several jobs and always came back to be in law enforcement. Until his death, he was employed at Richwood Correctional Center (ICE) in Richwood, LA, as a Deputy of
Correction.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Givens and Louise Smith; two brothers, Oscar Givens, Jr., and Walter Givens; and one sister, Mary White.
Left to cherish his memories are: two children, Shameika Smith and Demarcus Smith (Diane Smith); his only beloved grandson, Z’kah Smith; nine sisters, Elnora McCoy (Harold), Margaret McHenry (Robert), Lillian Riley (Raymond), Mary Smith, Cecilia Smith, Ora G. Lee, Ruthie (Ann) Doaty (Michael), LaToya Givens, and Artekya Givens; one brother, Lee Taylor; a beloved fiance, Angelia Smith; special sister/niece, Tyeshia Johnson; special niece, Takila McCoy-Joseph; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
