Walter Jackson, 81, of Monroe, Louisiana, passed away on December 28, 2024.
Walter Jackson was born in Sterlington, Louisiana on March 2, 1943, to Ruby Bell Jackson. Raised by Ruby and William Hobson Sr., Walter lived and enjoyed an eventful childhood growing up with his 11 siblings. Walter attended Carroll High School and was employed by Holsum Bakery and Riverwood International Paper Company, to name a few. Unknown to many, Walter was a great dancer and was blessed with the talent of drawing. Known for telling it like it is, he was beloved by his family, friends, and church members throughout the Monroe area.
Walter was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church in Monroe, Louisiana, where he served as an usher, church van driver, and deacon until he was physically unable to serve in these capacities.
Walter was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Bell Hobson; William Hobson, Sr.; and siblings Nathaniel Jackson, Ronald Hobson, Gregory Hobson, Juanita Hobson, Demetrius Hobson, Jeanette Hobson, and Darnell Jackson.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Michelle Jackson-Olowu (Olufemi) and Sonya Jackson Landrum (Vincent); grandchildren, Gamiya Landrum and Kristopher Porter; siblings, William “Zip” Hobson, Jr., Donald Ray Hobson, Freddie Lee Hobson, and Larry Hobson; nieces with whom he shared a special bond Tonia Hobson, Nateshia Hobson, and Aerial Hobson; and a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins, and a very special friend and support system, Ms. Bobbie Wilson.
