Thomas Ray Stapelton, also known as “Toby,” peacefully transitioned to his Heavenly Father after a courageous battle with cancer on February 28, 2020 in Delhi, Louisiana.
Toby was born on April 13, 1970 to the late O’Rea Burgess and the late Mary Stapelton-Harris in Monroe, Louisiana.
Toby was a lifelong resident of Delhi, where he was employed with the Town of Delhi’s Public Works for over 30 years. Toby was known for going out of his way to help others when they were in need. He was full of life and loved by many and he will forever be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his father, O’Rea Burgess; his mother, Mary Stapelton-Harris; step-father, E.L. Harris; five brothers, Willie Stapelton, Lavon Burgess, Arthur Burgess, Ardell Burgess, and Donald Burgess; and two sisters, Armetha Baker and Jackie Fritz.
Toby is survived by his son, LaDareyes Cleveland of Ohio; two brothers, James Stapelton, Sr. (Angela) of Delhi, Louisiana and Charles Stapelton (Dorothy) of Winnsboro, Louisiana; three sisters, Cathy Ceasar (Lonnie) of Chicago, Illinois; Betty Hunter (Andrew) of Delhi, Louisiana; and Carla Harris of Delhi, Louisiana; a companion, Mary Hale; a step-daughter, Alexis Hale; one grandchild, one god-daughter, Aaliyah Travis of Rayville, Louisiana; and a host of nieces and nephews.
