On June 18, 1984, Rus’Sheika Lavea Johnson was born to Collette Jean Johnson and Russell Varner. She was the middle child of three girls. Rus’Sheika was loving, smart,
and had a passion for helping others. Rus’Sheika accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the youth choir at Pleasant Green Baptist Church.
Rus’Sheika attended Robinson Elementary, Jefferson Junior High, and Rangeview High School, where she was a part of the marching band where she played the flute, as well as being a member of the Rangeview High School Dance team, where she fell in love with dance. She received her diploma and went on to attend Grambling State University. Rus’Sheika was dedicated and hardworking and she took her love of dance and made a career out of it. Rus’Sheika was a loving daughter, perfect sister, amazing and proud aunt, and a wonderful friend. She never met a stranger and was a ray of sunshine to all whom she encountered.
Rus’Sheika was preceded in death by her mother, Collette Jean Johnson; maternal grandparents, Horace and Mary; also, James and Arlenza; uncles, Bruce, Patrick, and Donnie; and aunt, Dianne.
Sadly, Rus’Sheika was called home on the morning of May 26, 2024, and she will be missed dearly.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her father, Russell Varner; sisters, Mary and Valentina Johnson; nieces, Caleyah, Autumn, and Kennidi; uncle, Theron Johnson (Latisha); aunt, Lora Varner-Wilkes; a host of cousins and friends; boyfriend, Shelbert Price; and furbaby, Dolla.
