On November 29, 1940, RUBY P. BARR was born to the late Annie M Brown and Columbus Johnson in Sterlington, Louisiana. She was reared in Sterlington and attended school at Myles High School.
She met and married Huey P. Barr, who preceded her in death. To this union, one son, Bruce L. Barr, was born. Ruby later met the love of her life, James Lewis. The relocated to Oakland, California in 1968. They were blessed with five children. She was a faithful member of the St. Paul Baptist Church in Oakland, California, under the leadership of Pastor Scott. She was employed at Willow Tree Nursing Home for 20 plus years and retired in 2002.
Sher returned to her hometown in Sterlington, Louisiana in 2003. She enjoyed sitting on her porch and had a great love for fishing. She became a member of the St. James Baptist Church in Sterlington, Louisiana. She remained a member until her health failed and her untimely passing.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Annie Brown; father, Columbus Johnson; two sisters, Helen English and Velma Moses; one brother, Roosevelt Canfield, Sr.; James Lewis; a grandson, Donnell Barr, Jr.; and a daughter, Thelma J. Barr.
She leaves to cherish her memories (3) sons: Bruce Barr (Kaye), and Donnell Barr, Sr., both of Sterlington, Louisiana, and Daren Barr (Tina) of Oakley, California; (2) daughters: Velma Lewis of Stockton, California and Cathy Barr of Sterlington, Louisiana; (21) grandchildren; (26) great-grandchildren; (3) great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
