Roy Lee Rucks Obituary

Deacon Roy Lee Rucks was born on October 10, 1947, to the union of the late B. H. and Annie Lee Stanley Rucks in El Dorado, Arkansas. He departed this earthly life on December 19, 2023, at the St. Francis Medical Center at 1:30 AM. Brother Rucks was the oldest of ten children.

At an early age, he accepted Christ and was a faithful member, serving the Lord and the people of God. Brother Rucks was a highly active and committed servant of God who carried on the mission of serving the people. Brother Rucks was a former member of the Triumph Baptist Chruch located in Monroe, Louisiana, under the leadership of Reverend Hill. Later in his Christian journey, in May 1961, he united with the St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend C. H. Reed, Reverend Henry Richardson, Reverend Melvin Franklin, and under the leadership of Pastor Kenneth Nolley, Sr., until his health would no longer allow him to serve in God’s mission. While being a member of these churches, Deacon Rucks serves as Chairperson of the Deacon ministry, Church treasurer, Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher of Class #8, mission member, choir member in the youth and junior choirs, male chorus, gospel choir, BTU, Deacon of the Mother’s Ministry, hospitality committee, and van driver. Deacon Rucks served with humility and with a servant’s heart.

Deacon Rucks attended JS Clark Elementary, Carroll Junior High School and graduated from Carroll High School in 1966. He also graduated from Northeast Louisiana University with a degree in Culinary Studies (currently known as the University of Louisiana at Monroe.) He became employed at the Piccadilly Cafeteria and served until he became employed at E.A. Conway Hospital where he worked in the Dietary Department, serving as a cook and line server before being promoted to supervisor. He retired after serving thirty-four years. After retirement from E. A. Conway Hospital, he later served as a custodian before being promoted to Custodial Supervisor at Chase.

Love was in the air when two teenagers met while living as next-door neighbors, and they endured a courtship for twelve years before getting married. Brother Roy and Sister Thelma were married on September 17, 1967, in Monroe, Louisiana on the front porch of their parents’ home. There were four children added to this union, Retha, Belinda, Rosalind, and LaJoshua. The lord Blessed them to be married for fifty-six years.

Deacon Rucks was preceded in death by his parents, B.H. and Annie Stanley Rucks.

He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Thelma Rucks; three daughters, Retha Rucks, Belinda Rucks, and Rosalind Rucks of Monroe, Louisiana; one son, LaJoshua Rucks of North Dallas, TX; nine grandchildren, DeQuarius Bailey, Shakeira Bailey, Jessica (Marcus) Rucks-Knowles, Makaiya Killian, Derrick Lee, Jr., Arianna Ross, D’Mariyontae Rucks, Alexia Norris, and Aliayah Rucks; five great-grandchildren, Aidyn Smith, Zealynn Killian Harris, Valencia Nabors, A’Laysiah Smith, and Kylie Lee; five sisters, Sarah Rucks, Shirley Rucks (Jeffrey) Williams, Mary Rucks, Linda Rucks, all of Monroe, Louisiana, and Freddie Lynch; five brothers, Robert (Nancy) Rucks of Shreveport, Louisiana, Roosevelt (Evelyn) Rucks of Monroe, Louisiana, Michael (Frances) Rucks of Sterlington, Jody Rucks of Dallas, TX, and Billy (Suzanne) Rucks of Shreveport, Louisiana; two sisters-in-law, Norma (Odell) Massey of Las Vegas, Nevada and Ruby Moore of Los Angeles, California; three brothers-in-law, Donald (Rita) Moore of Monroe, Louisiana, James Moore of South Carolina, and Richard (Julie) Moore of Los Angeles, California; one aunt, Pearl Stanley, and one uncle, Mitchell Stanley, both of Oakland, California; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends; St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church Family; and the 1966 Class of Carroll High School.
