Rosie Green Obituary

2 Timothy 4:7–8 (KJV) I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Rosie Lee Green was born on April 8, 1927, in Vernon, Louisiana, to the late Coatie McCardie and Willie Mae Williams. Rosie was called home to rest on Saturday, August 16, 2025, in her home at the age of 98.

Rosie accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted servant of the Lord, faithfully serving as a member of Saint Mary No. 2 Missionary Baptist Church of Monroe, Louisiana, for over 70 years, where she served as church secretary and choir president. She was also an active and faithful member of the Song Leaders Convention for many years, sharing her love of worship through song and service. Just prior to her passing, Rosie became a member of Bright Oak Missionary Baptist Church of Monroe, Louisiana, continuing her lifelong commitment to worship and service. She enjoyed being active in her local senior community center while she was able, and she made daily calls to check on others—always putting others before herself. Her life was a living testimony of faith, love, and service.

Though Rosie did not have the opportunity to receive a formal education, she carried wisdom far beyond books. At a young age, she helped her mother raise her siblings, showing the responsibility and selflessness that would define her life. After marrying, Rosie devoted herself fully to her family and home. Later, she worked for a short time as a private housekeeper, but her true calling was caring for others—whether through family, church, or community.

Beyond her family, Rosie was deeply devoted to her church life. Throughout the years, she was active in many churches and programs, often serving as an Usher. Her dedication, warmth, and presence made her well known and respected within the church community. She found joy in serving the Lord and others, and her faithful service touched countless lives.

Rosie was a warrior for Christ, known for her unwavering faith and her deep love for her family and people. Her life was a blessing and an example to all who knew her.

Rosie’s upright walk before the Lord and her pure love touched countless lives. Her presence radiated warmth, compassion, and strength. She was a pillar of her community and a beacon of light to her family and friends.

She was lovingly known to her grandchildren, children, and neighborhood kids as 'Big mama', a name that reflected her nurturing spirit and the warmth she shared with everyone around her.

Born in the segregated South; a time when hardships and injustice could have predicted her downfall, she refused to let circumstances define her future. Instead, she placed her destiny in God’s hands and set a course of action that shaped the life she aspired to live. As one granddaughter lovingly said, “She was a stepper.” It was clear throughout her journey that Rosie would be remembered for her unique qualities.

Family was at the heart of Rosie's life, in the words of another granddaughter " Big mama was a rescuer " she ensured our safety from the hands of the wrong people. Rosie dedicated her life to serving people, whether it was in church, in her family, strangers, her friends, it didn't matter. Rosie had a servant’s heart.

In the words of her grandchildren & family members:

"Big mama was the real model, she would tell you the truth". "Big mama was a leader that a person would want to model". "Big mama helped me raise my kids". “Rosie was a "sweet person" "Aunt Rose kept a vase sitting on the table with switches in it, and she would tell you to go and get one, not knowing it was for you". "She kept loving" " She kept giving" " She kept forgiving"

What defined Rosie most was not what she accomplished, but how she lived. She taught others the importance of kindness, resilience, generosity, joy, faith, and above all else, L.O.V.E.

Rosie’s legacy lives on in her family, friends, and all who were touched by her life. The lessons she shared through both words and actions. As we remember her, we celebrate not only the years she lived in, but the love, laughter, and meaning she gave to those years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elder Herman Green, with whom she shared a life rooted in spiritual devotion and family values.

Rosie leaves to cherish her memory: her two sons, Herman Green and his late wife, Rosie Lee of Monroe, LA, Freddie Green(Dorothy) of Monroe, LA, and one daughter Nancy Ray and her late husband, Deacon Lewis Ray of Monroe, LA, her grandchildren Herman Green, Jr. (H.L), Pam Green, Louis Green, Lavelle Green, Vicky Green, Kimberly Green, Herman Green (Lee Lee), Sharon Jordan, Renee Dunn (Shelby), Wiltron Harris, Christina Cain (Jeff), Anthony Green (Martha), LaToshia Herron (Alvin), Paula Elliott (Kemus), Carla Carter (Lee), Betty Whitlock (Timothy), LaDerick Powell (Chantel), Rosie Green, Freddie Green Jr., and many great-grandchildren.
