The Life of Reverend Jonas Melvin Garth Jr.
Reverend Jonas Melvin Garth Jr., a devoted man of God, beloved husband, father, brother, and uncle, transitioned from this life to his eternal home on March 7, 2026. A pillar of strength and faith, Rev. Garth dedicated his life to serving the Lord and leading his family with grace.
Born and raised in Monroe, Louisiana, Rev. Garth was a proud graduate of Richwood High School. He was a man of strong work ethic and character, retiring from Graphic Packaging in West Monroe after years of dedicated service.
Throughout his life, his true calling was the ministry. He served with unwavering devotion as the Pastor of Mt. Horeb Baptist Church, where his leadership and wisdom brought many to the Lord. Recently, he returned home and rejoined his church home at New Bright Star Baptist Church, finding great joy and peace in returning to his roots. His legacy will continue to bloom in the hearts of his congregation and the community he so faithfully served.
Family Legacy
Rev. Garth’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sharon Garth, with whom he shared a life built on faith and mutual respect. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his daughters: Rokeau (Garth) Wilkins and her husband Rico, Brenda Garth, and Jacqueline Garth; his step-daughter, Makevia Warren; and his step-sons, Lateef Warren and Omar Warren. He was a proud patriarch to a host of grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
