Rev. Dr. Luther Allen Puckett

Pastor Luther Allen Puckett was born July 8, 1932, in Delhi, LA, to the late RV Sr. and Mary Puckett. Pastor Puckett professed his hope in Christ at a young age and became a baptized believer at the St John Baptist Church in Delhi, LA. 

He received his formal education in the Richland Parish school system; however, one of his proudest moments was receiving his Doctor of Divinity from the SJ Williams School of Religion. 

In 1950, Luther was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, the late Alma McDowell-Puckett. 

After moving to Detroit, Michigan, in 1954, at the encouragement of his late beloved older brother, RV Puckett Jr., He and Alma began to build their lives together and their families. 

They became members of the Green Grove Baptist Church and became diligent workers serving in several ministries faithfully. 

Green Grove is also where he accepted his calling into the ministry and was ordained by Pastor CH Johnson in 1979. He served faithfully as an associate minister until pastor Johnson’s death.  

Pastor Puckett was installed as pastor of the Green Grove Baptist Church in 1984. He served God, the church, its members, and the community with all his heart until his retirement in 2014. 

Pastor Puckett was a light to all he encountered. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and pastor who left an indelible mark on every heart he touched. His smile, kindness, sense of humor, and generosity were unmatched.  

Pastor Puckett was preceded in death by his wife Alma Puckett, his parents, RV Sr and Mary, and his siblings, RV Jr, Willie Lee, Doris, Dorothy, Linda, Eunice, Geneva, OV, and Walter Lee. 

Pastor Puckett is cherished and remembered by his children, Walter Ray Puckett (Veronica—, Hattie Stewart of Atlanta, GA, and Randel Anderson.   10 grand children, Raytasha, Alyssa, Jordan (Stacy), Jade all of Windsor Ontario. Jaylen, Kallen, Raykiese, Kendall of Atlanta, GA, Randel Jr and Rondell. 10 great grandchildren, Aurora, DaVaughn, Donovan, Darrien, Dylan, Jaden, Deon, Dominick, and Nova. His brother Johnny Puckett of Delhi, LA, A special godson & daughter, Xavier & Eugenia Clemons, as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, family, and friends 

Sisters Barbara Ford, Geraldine Boggerty, and Marketa Johnson, you have been a blessing beyond measure! So have Pastor Pitts and the Green Grove Baptist Church Family.
