Patricia Ann Humphis Obituary

Ms. Patricia Ann Humphis, affectionately known as “Pat”, was born March 19, 1950, at the E.A Conway Hospital in Monroe, Louisiana to Mr. Calvin Jones, Sr., and Mrs. Laurice Jones (Brown), both of whom preceded her in death. Pat was the third oldest child out of twelve siblings born to Laurice Jones (Brown). Also, preceding her in death were her brother Calvin Jones, Jr., Earma Jean Stinson and her father Reuben Brown, Sr.

Pat accepted Christ an early age and was re-baptized at the New Macedonia Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois, under the leadership of Rev. Joseph Swansey, Pat was a faithful member of the Sanctuary Choir before relocating. After she went back to Louisiana she would join, St. Paul Baptist Church in Columbia, Louisiana under the leadership of Rev. Smith, until her health began to waiver.

Pat received her High School education at Farragut High School, located on the Westside of Chicago. It was at Farragut High School she would develop a love for dancing, she enjoyed it so much she joined the Majorette Team and became a Majorette. Whenever Pat would sit you down on the dance floor, she would happily remind you, “I was a Majorette”. Pat received her secondary education at Austin Community College majoring in Business Management in Austin, Texas.

In 1965, Pat married Mr. Esaw Jackson, and to this union she gave birth to her first daughter, Naomi Jackson.

In the year of 1975, Pat would meet her Soul Mate, Mr. John Humphis Sr. The couple united in Holy Matrimony on July 15, 1980, in Chicago, Illinois, and to this union she gave birth to Geraldine Humphis and Jan Humphis. Pat and John were a household name, everybody knew them and loved them and enjoyed their company, some of the best memories were created on Kolin Avenue and Avers Street in Chicago, it was nothing to have a family fish fry or a good ole’ cookout. Time spent with Pat and John, was time well spent. John departed this life on July 27, 2001, but her love for him never died.

Pat was one of the hardest working women you would ever meet, her dedication, her commitment, and her ability to get the job done did not go unnoticed. She started her career at Sears and Roebuck Co. located on the Westside of Chicago. She received accolades for her great performance and was known as the woman who filled more orders than anybody. But it was at the largest toy store chain “Toys R US” she would rise from an entry level employee and be promoted to the management staff. Shortly after she would receive her own store in Austin, Texas. Pat relocated to Austin, Texas in 1982 and after years she got assigned to another store in Jackson, Mississippi. Pat was a pleasure to work for and you could always count on her to get the job done!

Pat made Jackson, Mississippi her home, and shortly after she purchased land and began to build and continue to raise her family on the Humphis Estate in Hazlehurst, Ms. Pat would later relocate back to Monroe, Louisiana to care for her mom.

Pat was a very meticulous, very detailed oriented and a very well-organized person. She believed in a neat and tidy house, and she kept everything decent and in order, and expected you to do the same when you visited (smile).

Pat enjoyed lots of laughter and fun times, with her brothers and sisters and especially the sister trips. When the sisters and nieces would take those trips to either Las Vegas, Cruises, Disney World, Bahamas or wherever, you would be sure to hear them laughing a mile away and talking loudly! The jokes they shared were second to none. But nothing would put a glee in her eyes like when she would look out and see cars pulling in the driveway and she would see her three daughters’ faces coming to shower her with a good time, good gifts, and lots of love along with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pat enjoyed cooking for them. She always made them their special meal, spaghetti, fried chicken wings, and cornbread.

Pat had a dog and she named him “Thudda”, “A Dog Is A WoMan’s Best Friend”, her and Thudda had a bond that could not be explained, he provided her so much comfort and company! Three days before her departure, Thudda passed away from a broken heart, he missed her so much! Thudda, we know you are in Heaven with her. God Bless You!! You were there when the rest of us could not be.

The family has suffered a tremendous loss, but we know God makes no mistake. Take your rest Pat, we will forever visit our memories of you.

When God opened heaven gates, we are can hear you saying
“Hi, Heavenly Father, I’m Pat and I come to dance for you.”
Dance on Pat in Jesus’ name!!

Pat leaves to cherish her precious memories: three loving daughters, Naomi Johnson of Lafyette, LA, Geraldine (John) Sutter of Columbus, OH, and Jan Humphis of Hazlehurst, MS; her step children, Carrie Perry, of Joliet, IL and Jon Humphries of Houston, TX; her three Goddaughters, Kamela Johnson, Laniyah Barnes and Shayla Lewis; three sisters, Lula Smith of Evanston, IL, Gail (Sam) Page of Hillside, IL, and Ruth Kelly of Spartanburg, SC; brothers, Douglas (Margaret) Jones of Maywood, IL, Daniel (Jessie) Jones of Monroe, LA, Reuben (Laverne) Jones of Houston, TX, Darris (Jackie) of Monroe, LA, Thomas (Angie) Brown of Calumet City, IL, and David Brown of Hazlehurst, MS; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; Godson, Roderett Kelly, Jr.; three Goddaughters; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
