Pastor Elder Ronald D. Green, Sr. Obituary

Pastor Ronald Dale Green, Sr., a devoted servant of God, beloved husband, father, and respected leader, was born on December 9, 1964, to the proud parents William and Louise Moore-Green. His mother often reflected on his birth with the words, “No more, but God said one more,” a testament to the divine purpose that would define his life.

Ronald received his early education at Carver Elementary School, Thomas Jefferson Middle School, and Wossman High School, where he excelled as a football player. Even after graduation, he maintained a strong and enduring bond with the Class of 1982, cherishing those lifelong relationships. At an early age, Ronald accepted Christ while attending Beth Eden Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Simmons. There, he was baptized and faithfully served as an usher, beginning a lifelong journey of service in God’s kingdom.

Pastor Green demonstrated leadership both inside and outside the church. At just 16 years old, he began his professional career at Popeyes, becoming the first biscuit maker in Northeast Louisiana and rising to the position of manager by age 18. His strong work ethic and leadership abilities followed him throughout his career as he held management and supervisory roles at Dollar General, Walmart, and JPMorgan Chase. He also worked for Malone and Hyde, 7-Eleven, Bojangles, and later served the community as a mail carrier with the United States Postal Service.

In 1983, at a bonfire held at Neville High School, Ronald met the love of his life, Marilyn Cooper. After much fasting and prayer, the two united in Holy Matrimony on November 23, 1985. With this union, Ronald lovingly embraced Marilyn’s daughter, Marquilla Cooper, as his own. Together, they were blessed with two biological children, Ronkeyuna Green and Ronald Green Jr., forming a strong and faith-centered family.

Ronald later joined Unity Church of God in Christ, where he served as a Deacon under Pastor Donald R. Louis. On November 19, 1989, he acknowledged God’s calling on his life and preached his first sermon, “Ready or Not, Christ Is Coming,” based on Matthew 25:1–10. He pursued theological education at the C.H. Mason Bible Institute and was ordained as an Elder on August 11, 1994, under the leadership of Bishop Roy L. H. Winbush.

On September 18, 2010, Pastor Green was appointed Pastor of Unity Church of God in Christ. On March 31, 2013, following divine direction, he renamed the church Spirit of Deliverance. He continued to deepen his theological knowledge by attending and graduating from Faith Bible Institute in December 2023.

Pastor Ronald Green touched countless lives through his kind-hearted spirit, unwavering faith, and encouraging words. He was known for his joyful laughter, genuine compassion, and holy lifestyle. His love for his family, church family, and community was sincere and deeply felt. He especially cherished fellowship with the Spirit of Deliverance church family and had a special love for the youth ministry, creating lasting memories both inside and outside the church. Everyone held a special place in his heart.

He faithfully served in numerous leadership roles, including Monroe District Chairman of Elders and Pastors under Superintendent Earl K. Burks, within the Louisiana Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction under Bishop Alton E. Gatlin. He also served on the Ordination Board and Finance Committee, always leading with integrity and humility.

Pastor Ronald Dale Green, Sr. was preceded in death by his parents, William and Louise Moore-Green; siblings John Evan Green, Lula Mae Green, and William Green Jr.; brother-in-law Willie Zeigler; and sister-in-law Zenna Nix-Green.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beautiful, devoted, dedicated, and loving Queen of 40 years, Marilyn Green; children Marquilla Cooper, Ronkeyuna Green, and Ronald Green Jr. God-daughter Hannah Grace Gayden; sister Patricia Green-Zeigler; brother Robert Lee Green; nieces Kenya Green, Sasha Brown-Marles; Mother and father in love Virges Cooper, Jr. and Cora Lee Cooper; sisters- and brothers-in-law Lisa Murphy-Johnson, Stephanie and Steven Knight, Tracey Cooper; along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and the beloved Spirit of Deliverance Church family. II Timothy 4: 7-8
"I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith: Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give at that day."
