Nellie Jo Sims Jackson, commonly known as “Mrs. Jo,” was born July 13, 1949. She was born to the late George Sims, Jr., and Johnnie Mae Carr Sims in Fairbanks, Louisiana. At the young age of three, her father and mother moved the family to Detroit, Michigan, where she resided until February 14, 2001, when she moved to Monroe, Louisiana, with her twin boys, Christopher and Charles, and two grandchildren Anthony and Ashley to start a new life. In 2003, she met the love of her life, William Jackson, and on July 19, 2010, they were joined in holy matrimony. She accepted Christ after moving here at Freedom Church under the leadership of Pastor Stewart Robinette. After a lengthy illness, she transitioned to her eternal home on August 24, 2024, at St. Francis Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her father, George Sims, Jr.; mother, Johnnie Mae Carr Sims; and three brothers, George Ray Sims, Rheudell LaMont Sims, and Don Allen Sims.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her loving husband, William Jackson of Monroe, LA; two daughters, Raven Sims and Shereen Sims, both of Detroit, MI; three sons, Rodney Sims of Monroe, LA, La Charles Garner of West Monroe, LA, and Christopher Garner of Dallas, TX; three sisters, Donna Mae Sims Massey, Carol Chambers, both of Detroit, MI, and Rita (Marvin) Cameron of Monroe, LA; three brothers, Johnny Carr, Jonah Israel (Root), and Reverend Phillip Sims (Ethel), all of Detroit, MI; three aunts, Glenda Carr, Betty Ann Carr, and Mary Carr, all of Monroe, LA; one uncle, Jeff Carr, Sr., of Monroe, LA; four sisters-in-law, Root Israel, Ethel Sims, and Mary Sims, all of Detroit, MI, and Lorenna Davison of Dallas, TX; one brother-in-law, Marvin Cameron of Monroe, LA; 28 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one godsister, Kathy Town of California; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”
II Timothy 4:6-8
