Mother Lueree Johnson Thomas was born on June 25, 1933 in Sax Souia, Louisiana, to Brother Whitney Johnson and Sister Mamie Jenkins-Johnson, who both preceded her in death.
Mother Thomas joined Fairview A.M.E. Church at an early age. She later joined Saint Peter A.M.E. Church where she served as the President of the Usher Board, a Trustee, a member of the
Missionary Society, a Daughter of Sarah, a Stewardess, a member of the Christian Community Club, and a member of The Friendly Ladies of Delhi.
Mother Thomas was united in holy matrimony to Brother Sam Thomas. They were blessed with eight children.
The following siblings preceded her in death: Mr. Walter Johnson, Mrs. Beatrice Murray, Mr. Thomas Johnson, Mrs. Everlina Gayfield, and Mrs. Fannie McDaniel. She was blessed before she departed her life to visit with her baby sister, Mamie Lewis of Las Vegas, NV.
Mother Thomas departed her life at Glenwood Medical Center in West Monroe, Louisiana, on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at 6:10 p.m.
Mother Thomas was preceded in death by her parents, Brother Whitney Johnson and Sister Mamie Jenkins-Johnson; her spouse, Brother Sam Thomas; son, Benny Louis Thomas; and three grandchildren, Dominique Thomas, Dewayne McDowell, and Alice Faye Brooks.
Mother Thomas leaves to cherish her memories: her sons, Dole Ray Johnson (Thelma), Hardy Lee Thomas (Deborah), both of Delhi, Louisiana; Sam Thomas, Jr., of Monroe, Louisiana, and
Jimmy Ray Thomas (Renetta) and Jimmie Charles Thomas, both of Delhi, Louisiana; two daughters, Linda Luree Thomas and Ketwanda Thomas Haynes (Wayne); special niece, Mello Gayfield; twenty-nine grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
