Today we celebrate the life and memory of Brother Melvin Calhoun III, born October 27, 1959, to the late Melvin Calhoun, Jr., and Alberta Calhoun. Melvin confessed Christ at a early age.
He attended school at Tallulah High, where he finished in 1979. After completing school Melvin went into the United States Air Force and completed four years in radio communication. Years later, Melvin met the love of his life, Rita Jones. They were married June 28, 1996. Melvin was blessed with three children who love
him dearly.
Melvin was preceded in death by both parents, Melvin Calhoun, Jr., and Alberta Calhoun; two brothers, Louis Calhoun and Richard Calhoun; and two sisters, Patricia Calhoun and Jessie Mae Dixon.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of twenty-five years, Rita Calhoun of Tallulah, Louisiana; his children, Kevin Jones of Tallulah, Jessica Jones of Byrum, Mississippi, and Muriel Jones of Monroe, Louisiana; four grandkids, Jezziah Fair, MaKaylan Jones, Kevin Ray Jones III, and My Heir Capri Allen; two sisters, Geneva Dismuke and Joyce Calhoun of Tallulah; two nephews, Louis Long and Brandon Calhoun, both of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; mother-in-law, Muriel DeButt of Tallulah; brother-in-law, Galvin Edwards of Las Vegas; special niece and nephew, Lawell Anderson of Korea and Teneshai Lawrence of Tallulah; godbrother, William Thomas of Tallulah; goddaughter, Dimond Knox Jackson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; godson, Donovon Long of Tallulah; and a host of relatives and friends.
