Melanie Henry was born on December 25, 1962, to the late Billy Joe and Dollie V Henry in Monroe, Louisiana. She departed her life on Friday, December 12, 2025, at her home surrounded by her sisters Gwendolyn, Shari, and Marty.
Melanie was number seven of eleven children. Her family relocated from Louisiana to Chicago, Illinois at an early age.
Melanie loved playing the piano and surrounded by her family, especially all of her nieces and nephews.
Melanie graduated from Simeon Vocational High School in Chicago and thereafter was hired to work for Illinois Bell Phone Company for many years.
Melanie decided to leave the phone company and start her career with the Chicago Police Department as a police officer. Melanie retired after 25 years of service. Melanie moved to Monroe,
Louisiana, where she made her transition.
Melanie was preceded in death by her brothers, Billy Joe Henry, Jr. and Alvin Henry; and sister, Misty Henry-Nicholson.
Melanie leaves to cherish: her sisters, JoEtta Henry-Dufelmeier of Australia, Shari Henry-Thompson, Gwendolyn Henry and Marty Henry of Monroe, Louisiana, Wilamenia Henry-Johnson and Tamiko Henry of Chicago, Illinois, and brother, Michael Henry, Sr., of St. Lucie, Florida; and many, many nieces and nephews.
