May Dean George Obituary

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”
II Timothy 4:7-8

Mrs. May Dean George, a.k.a. “Mrs. Gloria,” was the beautiful, kind, caring mother, aunt, and grandmother. The Lord called her home on August 6, 2024, at Delta Grande Skilled Nursing Home in Monroe, Louisiana, where she will be really missed by many. She made sure that all of her children were cared for and she loved them dearly. She loved cooking and sewing.

May was the daughter of James Ford and Blanche Head, born in Monroe, Louisiana, on May 1, 1934. She attended Monroe Colored High School, now Carroll High School. Early on, she became a hard worker and was a single mother to her kids after her husband passed away when they were young. She was a housekeeper for many years for the Satterfield family until the ‘80s when she retired.

She was married to Junior George and they had one daughter, Sylvia La Vera George-Abron. After he passed away, she never remarried. In addition, she was preceded in death by her sons, Darryl Wells-Commanche and Felton R. George.

She leaves to cherish her beloved memories: her children, Sylvia La Vera Abrons, Charlie S. George, Elton D. George (Bobbie), and Annette L. Wells-Watson (Mr. Ivy Watson, Sr.); ten grandchildren, Kandi Holmes, Tarquez Morrison, Charlie Smith, Antoinette Watson-Turner (KluTaveis L. Turner), Anquinette Watson, Isaac Watson (Sally), Ivory Watson, Antonio Watson, Charles Christian George, and Dettrick Price; twelve grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
