Mrs. Mary Etta Stewart, 103, was born on May 12, 1921, to James Jordan and Pauline Couch Jordan, who preceded her in death. Mary departed from this life on Monday, September 2, 2024, at 5:15 p.m. at Haven Nursing Home in Columbia, Louisiana.
At an early age, Mary accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized into the Garden Valley Baptist Church. She later became a member at Evening Star Baptist Church in Grayson,
Louisiana. She received her education from Union Central High School.
In 1943, Mary joined in holy matrimony with Evester Stewart - they were married for fifty-seven years. He preceded her in death in 2000. To this union, three children were born, Leddrew, Betty, and Samuel. Betty James preceded her in death in 2021.
For many years, she worked as a domestic worker and a cafeteria worker while living in Grayson, Louisiana. Later moving to Detroit, Michigan, in 1953, where she resided until 2015.
Mary leaves to mourn her passing: two sons, Leddrew Stewart of Grayson, LA, and Samuel Stewart of Ruston, LA; eight grandchildren, Rona Ruston of LA, Heath James of Portland, OR, Rewa James of Monroe, LA, Samuel L. Stewart of Detroit, MI, Renee’ James of Ruston, LA, and Chris James (Brandi) of Tuscan, AZ; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
