By God’s divine wisdom, the Angels of Mercy descended from Heaven on January 24, 2026, at 11:55 a.m., to add a beautiful and faithful servant to His heavenly host.
The favor of God was granted to Willie James Staten, Sr., and Mary Wright Staten when they were blessed with an angelic and glorious daughter, Marion Delores Staten, born on September 2, 1949, in Rayville, Louisiana. Of the children born to this union, she was the oldest of four brothers and one sister.
Marion, affectionately known as “Lois,” was baptized at an early age at Greater Flowery Mount Baptist Church. Mother Lowens was a devoted and trustworthy member who faithfully served as Financial Secretary, Recording Secretary, and as a member of the Motherboard, Hospitality Committee, and Women’s Group Divas.
She attended Carver Elementary School, Carroll Junior High School, and Carroll High School, where she was a proud graduate of the Class of 1967. Marion’s greatest joy and passion was reuniting and celebrating with her classmates of the Class of 1967.
Marion worked diligently throughout her life, always ensuring that things were done decently and in order. She was employed by Monroe City schools as a paraprofessional and computer lab facilitator and later served for 30 years as an administrative assistant at Clara Hall Elementary School. After retirement, she worked briefly at Total Wellness Advocate as an administrative assistant.
Those who knew Marion fondly described her as a God-fearing woman of God: humble, dependable, kind, selfless, and giving, with a true heart of gold.
Beloved family who preceded her Heavenly journey include sons, Davie Lee Taylor, Jr., and Milan Demare Taylor; her parents, Willie James Staten, Sr., and Mary Wright Staten; grandparents, Taylor and Sarah Wright, and James and Helen Staten; and sister, Olieve Fobbs.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory her son, Dr. Byron M. Lowens of Monroe; sisters, Patricia Johnson (Robert) and Viola Griffin (Roy), of Monroe; brothers, Willie James Staten, Jr., (Nora) of Elk Grove, California, David L. Staten (Connie) of Monroe, Carl Staten of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Jeffery Staten (Shelia) of Bloomington, Illinois; grandchildren, Francesca, Myles, and Sapphira Taylor; daughter-in-law, Valerie Taylor of Chester, Virginia; aunt, Alma Jean Cherry of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; goddaughters, LaKesha Boughton of Monroe, and Ashanti Hicks; favorite cousin, Sue Augustine of Monroe; a multitude of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends; the Greater Flowery Mount Baptist Church family; and her beloved Class of 1967.
All who knew and loved her will miss her dearly.
