Marie Elaine-Theresa Batiste Davis Obituary

Marie Elaine-Theresa Batiste Davis was born in New Orleans, LA, on December 27, 1951, the eldest of six children to the union of Albert Batiste, Jr. and Evelyn Jeanpierre Batiste. She was a graduate of Xavier University Preparatory School, class of 1969. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Xavier University of Louisiana, and later a Master’s Degree from The University of New Orleans. Marie was always an avid book reader, with an obsession for her James Patterson novels.

Marie united in Holy Matrimony with the late Stevens Davis, Sr. on November 24, 1973. To this union, a bouncing baby boy, Stevens Jr. was born. Both Marie and Stevens were lovers of traveling and greatly enjoyed exposing Stevens Jr. to new ventures.

Throughout her professional career beginning in 1974, Marie quickly advanced holding several governmental positions within the city of New Orleans. She initially began employment with the New Orleans Milne Boys Home, shortly thereafter transferring to the New Orleans Health Department, then later to the Department of Safety and Permits, and later with the Rivergate Development Corporation. Soon afterwards, Marie was promoted to Analyst with the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board where she remained until her retirement in 2006. Within a week of Hurricane Katrina, Marie assisted in establishing a satellite Sewerage and Water Board administrative office in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Marie adored her home city, New Orleans, and devoted herself to serving in several capacities within her community. She was an actively involved member of the St. Paul’s Catholic Church, and especially enjoyed weekly Mass. Marie fondly cheered for her favorite football team “The New Orleans Saints,” and was a Saints paraphernalia enthusiast. Marie was also an exceptional bowler, and enjoyed being a part of her Sewerage and Water Board Family’s Bowling League. She was a Charter Member of the Sewerage and Water Board’s H20 Toast Master’s Club #2030, established in July, 1994. In January, 2001, Marie became a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. After Hurricane Katrina, Marie relocated to Baker, Louisiana, and later to West Monroe, Louisiana, to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law.

Preceding Marie in death was her husband, Stevens Sr.; her parents, Albert Jr. and Evelyn; her brother, Gerard Batiste; her sister, Adriane Batiste; and her beloved nephew/God-son, Jeanpierre Batiste.

Marie leaves to cherish her fondest memories, her loving son, Stevens Davis, Jr. (Regina); grandson, Steven Jacob Davis (Miycah); granddaughter, Tiaja A. Potter; and two great-grandchildren, Karter Davis, & Marlee Davis. Marie also leaves loving siblings, Maurice Batiste (Zina), Muriel Batiste, and Albert Batiste, III (Chantelle); as well as a devoted God-sister, Marilyn Meredith. She is survived by nieces and nephews, Rashaeda, Sierra, Jasmine, Monica, Gabrielle, Monchella, Domonick, and Joshua; along with a host of extraordinary cousins, dear co-workers, extra special friends, and her wonderful Savannah Grand family who she loved so dearly. Marie departed this life on September 20, 2022 at Glenwood Regional Medical Center.
