Lucille Conley Hawkins Obituary

Lucille Conley Brown Wallace Hawkins was born on June 27, 1946, to the late Isiah and Beatrice Ward in Monroe, Louisiana. Affectionately known as “Granny Pooh” by her beloved grandchildren, Lucille was cherished by all who knew her. She peacefully gained her wings on January 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Lucille accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by Reverend George Colvin at Union Hill Baptist Church, where she committed her life to the Lord as her Savior. She attended Richwood High School and proudly was a classmate of the Class of 1964. Throughout her career, Lucille worked with dedication and purpose, holding positions at The Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant in Minden, Louisiana, and Western Electric in Shreveport, Louisiana. Later in life, she retired after serving as a loyal employee to the Calloway family in Bosco, Louisiana, and the Funderburg family in Monroe, Louisiana.

Lucille’s legacy is one of faith, love, and resilience. Lucille was a remarkable woman, deeply loved and admired by all who knew her. She possessed an extraordinary talent for creating beautiful works with her hands, crafting bracelets, jewelry, ribbons for special events, and exquisite flower arrangements. Lucille was a devoted and compassionate caretaker, always selflessly serving those she loved. With a heart of gold, she brought kindness and warmth to everyone she touched. A lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Morning Star Chapter 29A, Lucille also embraced life’s simple joys. She occasionally enjoyed visits to nearby casinos and cherished playing spades with her family. Her fun-loving spirit and magnetic personality naturally drew people toward her, and she embraced everyone with unconditional love and acceptance.

Lucille wasn’t just creative—she was handy too! You might occasionally find her tinkering with cars, fixing pipes around the house, or painting a room. She was the kind of woman who could whip up a flower arrangement and then change a tire without breaking a sweat—talk about a one-woman show!

Her radiant smile, brilliant spirit, and compassionate heart left a lasting mark on those fortunate enough to know her. She inspired others to strive for strength, kindness, and authenticity, embodying what it truly means to be a strong and caring woman. Lucille lived her life to the fullest—filled with happiness, laughter, fun, and joy. Her legacy of love and light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who adored her.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Beatrice and Isiah Ward; husband, Charlie Hawkins; brother, Larry “Buddy” Conley; and two nieces, Pamela Conley and Aretha “Bae-Bae” Hampton.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her daughters, Michelle Conley (Micheal) of Monroe, LA, Yvette Brown-Moore of Chesapeake, VA, and Samona Moore (Donald) of Monroe, LA; two sisters, Ethel Lee Conley of Shreveport, LA, and Annie Bea Henderson of Richmond, CA; eight granddaughters, five grandsons, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Lucille is also lovingly remembered by her special friends of many years, Jerry Butler, Debbie Sanders, and Sherry Morales.

No amount of time with the remarkable Lucille Hawkins would ever have been enough, but we are profoundly grateful for the time God blessed us with her. We rejoice in the promise of eternal glory and look forward to the day we will all be reunited.
