For I am ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. II Timothy 4:6–7
Linda Faye Hicks was born December 26, 1954, to the late Rosie Lee Hicks and Leon “Tom” Newman. Linda was preceded in death by both her parents and three brothers, Richard, Earnest, and Gary Hicks. Ma attended the public schools of East Carroll Parish. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and later became a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as an usher until her health began to fail. She had a passion for food and loved to cook. Linda was employed by various food service businesses. Her last place of employment was “Uncle Darrell’s” neighborhood store. Linda was known as “Ma”. She was loved by everyone, and of course, the love was returned. Ma was so sweet and caring, she looked out for everyone. Whether you needed somewhere to stay, something to eat, or a li’l change to borrow, Ma Linda had you!! She helped anyone she could, even if it caused her to go without!! On January 17, 2021, God saw that Ma was getting weary, so he gently whispered to his little angel, “Linda, come home and take your rest.” Ma leaves to carry on her legacy: two daughters, Sherita and Shenita Hicks of Lake Providence, LA; one son, James (Patricia) Hicks of Monroe, LA; three sisters, Brenda Owens of Lake Providence, LA, Louis Ann Reed of Texas, and Georgia Lee Bradford of Sacramento, CA; three brothers, Bennie Hicks, Carlos Kelly of Monroe, LA, and Derrick Reed of Lake Providence, LA; six grandchildren, Tytiana, ZaMarion, and Zylan Hicks, Shaquita Moore of Monroe, LA, Keldrick Robinson of Lake Providence, LA, and Johnathon Thompson of Texas; four great-grandchildren; and a host of godchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other family, and friends.
