Lewis Edward Carroll was born on July 4, 1954, in Crowville, Louisiana. After a lengthy illness, he departed this earthly life on March 10, 2023, at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital in Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lenard Carroll, Jr., and Ella Mae Scott Carroll; grandparents, Louis and Hattie Burns Scott; and son, Carlo Hill. He was the youngest of ten siblings. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Aaron Carroll, Lenard Carroll III, and James Carroll; and four sisters, LeElla Carroll, Leola Hooker (Polly), Hattie Bell Jackson, and Maggie Williams.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his two sisters, Janie Brown (Howard Roy) of Monroe, LA, and Dora Natt of Mangham, LA; nieces and nephews, and a very special friend, Gloria Clark of Washington, D.C.
Upon leaving high school, Lewis joined the Army. He was an excellent car mechanic and later a salesman for Toyota. He made many friends over the years through his ability to work on cars, many in the auto industry but many more outside. He was the person you knew you could count on if you had a car problem. Later in life he taught himself wood carving and became an entrepreneur. He took great pride in his beautiful, unique wood creations, and loved sharing the history of each one. Those long conversations will be missed as well as his presence and laughter.
