LESLIE DARNELL BYRD, son of John Sr. and Gennie Byrd, was born on April 25, 1965, in Rayville, LA. He graduated from Richwood High School in 1983. Leslie met the love of his life, Jacqueline, in March of 1986. They later moved to Georgia in 1989 and joined each other in holy matrimony on March 9, 1991. After moving to Georgia, Leslie started his career at Dobbs International Services later known as Gategourmet in 1989. As a driver catering to aircrafts at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport until he retired in March of 2020 as a safety trainer. Leslie was known as “Mann” growing up in Louisiana and Byrd in Georgia. Byrd was a jack of all trades and loved to work with his hands. He was an excellent mechanic which was his passion, DJ which was his hobby, and grill master.
Byrd was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline Byrd; father, John Byrd, Sr.; paternal grandparents, Douglas and Louise Byrd; maternal grandparents, James (Jim) and Irma Jean Finley; and niece, Vonyell Byrd.
Byrd leaves to cherish his memories: his mother, Gennie B. Byrd; only son, Leslie Alexander, Jr.; four daughters, Kimberly Alexander, Latora Dennis, Kristi Allen, and Jennifer Byrd; two brothers, John Byrd, Jr., and Timothy Byrd; four sisters, Rose Byrd, Debra Mays, Tammy Byrd, and Avis Loring; one sister-in-law, Shirley Bynum; three brothers-in-law, Eddie Alexander, Sr., Thomas Alexander, and Robert Alexander; grandchildren, Jeriah Alexander, LeAnna Harris, Graclyn Alexander, Cameron Martin, Jordan Byrd, and Desire Alexander; close friends, Victor Covington, Bobby Jones, Ronald Jones, Moe Perkins, Mike Parker, Warren Foy, and Lil Darryl; and a host of nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, aunties, and uncles.
