Leon Dunaway was born on April 28, 1940, in Jackson Parish to the late Pine and Mattie Dunaway. He was the second born of four children.
He attended St. Rest Elementary in Ruston, Louisiana. Leon enjoyed visiting with his family and friends. He united in marriage with Sammie Dunaway on April 30, 1982. He gave his life to Christ and united with the Greater Free Gift Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop Rodney McFarland, I.
He was a truck driver for many years for Dixie trucking company. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pine and Mattie Dunaway; brothers, John, Tommy, and Willie Dunaway; and son, Leo Washington.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted wife, Sammie Dunaway; three daughters, Rachell Powell, Margret Williams, and Julia Glasper; one stepdaughter, Kim Harris (Jason); son, Keon Hines; two stepsons, Reginald Wilhite and Perry Wilhite; one sister, Barnestine Dunaway; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
