Laverne Simmons was born September 4, 1956, to the late A.J. and Ruby Simmons in Grayson, Louisiana. He died on May 26, 2021, at Cornerstone Hospital in West Monroe, LA.
He was the eighth child of ten children born to this union. Four brothers preceded him in death: Lonell, Alvin, Bobby, and Jimmy.
Laverne received his high school education at Caldwell Parish High School. After high school he served in the United States Army.
Laverne confessed Christ at an early age and united with Evening Star Baptist Church in Grayson, Louisiana.
Laverne worked in the logging industry for many years. He was a hard worker. He later became a stocker at Kaye’s Food Market.
Laverne will forever be remembered and loved for that great, big, beautiful smile, and that kind and loving heart. Laverne united in marriage to Particia Trent on July 4, 1976, and three children were born to this union.
He leaves to cherish his memory: one granddaughter, Lacie Monae Simmons; one daughter, Shantae Simmons; two sons, Laverne (Lakeisha) Simmons and Lashawn Simmons, all of Dallas, TX; one sister, Laura (Laverne) Roquemore of Columbia, LA; four brothers, A.J. Jr. (Shellie) of Southfield, MI, Curtis Simmons of Columbia, LA, Ronald Simmons of Monroe, LA, and Arthur Simmons of Shreveport, LA; two step-children, Jessica and DeShawn; a special friend, Cynthia; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
