Johnny Williams, Jr Obituary

JOHNNY WILLIAMS, JR., affectionately known as “J-Dub” and “June,” was born on December 17, 1966, in Monroe, Louisiana. He was the beloved son of the late Johnny Williams, Sr. and Wilma Williams. Johnny entered eternal rest on Saturday, December 13.

Johnny was a proud graduate of Neville High School, Class of 1985, where he was a football standout, known for his athleticism and school pride. He furthered his education by attending the University of Louisiana at Monroe and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology with a concentration in Software Engineering from the University of Phoenix in 2009.

Johnny proudly served his country in the United States Army for over 21 years, holding the title of Logistics Sergeant. Following his retirement from active duty, he continued his commitment to service by serving several additional years in the National Guard. During his military career, he completed two tours of duty in Iraq during critical periods, serving with honor, courage, and dedication. His service reflected his strong work ethic, discipline, and deep sense of responsibility. Following his military service, Johnny retired from the railroad, where he worked as an engineer with the Kansas City Southern Railroad Company. His career was marked by professionalism, reliability, and pride in his work.

A devoted man of faith, Johnny faithfully served as a Deacon at New Hope Pentecostal Temple under the leadership of his younger brother, Pastor Keith Williams. In addition to his duties as a deacon, Johnny also cared for the church grounds, maintaining the lawn and assisting with occasional maintenance, always willing to serve wherever help was needed.

Johnny was united in holy matrimony to Shevonna Williams on September 29, 2018. Their marriage was grounded in faith, love, and companionship, and they cherished spending time together traveling, cooking, and hosting dinners and movie nights in their home.

Known as the jokester of the family, J-Dub—also lovingly called June—was often one of the loudest people in the room, always joking, laughing, and bringing joy to those around him. He had a heart for giving and believed deeply in helping others. He often cooked meals and donated food to the Renewal Center, giving freely of his time, love, and resources. Johnny also took pride in his appearance and carried himself with confidence and style. Whether dressed sharply in a tailored suit or relaxed in casual wear, he always looked well put together. He was known for rocking the latest stylish shoes and was rarely seen without a watch—details that reflected his confidence, discipline, and personal presence.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved children: Ladariel Ellis (Minneapolis, MN); Jondarious Williams (Birmingham, AL); Johnny Williams III (Blythewood, SC); Jasmine Williams (Forney, TX); Henry Hollins (Monroe, LA); Michael Hollins (Monroe, LA); and Ja’Layia Williams (Monroe, LA), along with a host of loving grandchildren.

He is also survived by his wife, Shevonna Williams; his loving mother, Wilma Williams; his sister, Sandra Harris (James); his brothers, Pastor Keith Williams and Alex Kalu (Irene); and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Johnny was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Williams, Sr., and his mother-in-love, Dorothy Hollins Chatman.

During his retirement, Johnny enjoyed traveling, grilling, fishing, and watching sports, while spending time doing the things he loved most with the people he cherished.

Johnny “J-Dub” “June” Williams will be remembered for his unwavering faith, faithful service to his country and church, generous heart, confident presence, sharp sense of style, deep love for his family, and the laughter he shared so freely. One of his favorite scriptures reflects the life he lived:

“May the work that I have done speak for me.”
