James Atkins was born June 28, 1953 to Nathaniel Atkins from Jonesville, Louisiana, who preceded him in death; and Gladys Wynn Atkins, who is 100 years old, from Gilbert, Louisiana. James was delivered by his grandmother, Eva Wynn, a mid wife.
His grandmother Eva Thomas Wynn, grandfather James “Jean” Wynn and his brother Dennis Ray “Rabbit” Atkins preceded him in death.
James transitioned on Sunday April 10, 2022 after a short battle with Lung Cancer at Ochsner-LSU Monroe Medical Center.
At an early age he joined and was baptized at Bright Oak Baptist Church, 3628 Cooper St. Monroe, LA 71201. Later he united with Deuteronomy B C under the leadership of Pastor Stonewall Hunter, Jr., now under the leadership of Pastor D’Antre Jackson.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his mother, Sister Gladys Wynn Atkins (100 years old); his wife, Lorethel Atkins; 2 sisters Jessie Bell “Dot” Thomas and Eva Fay Atkins Walsh “Fay”; 1 God-sister, Ernestine Givens; his 1st wife, Sharon Atkins Hardy; 2 daughters, Jameshia “Moot” Atkins and Miranda Atkins; 2 sons, Daron Baker and Ashley Baker; 2 step-sons LaDarron Mathis and Huey Mathis, Jr.; 6 grandchildren, Dequisha, Triecie, Karter, Karsyn, Jamei, and Josiah; 5 great-grandchildren, Tristan, Chrisslyn, Jordan, Journee and Makayla; and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends.
