Ira Johnson was born in Liddieville, Louisiana on August 8, 1953, to the late Alfield and Lucy B. Johnson. In 1973, Ira graduated from Ogden High School. Ira lived in Winnsboro for many years until 1995, when he met Carolyn Vaughn, his wife of 32 years. Ira worked as a farmhand, and as a correctional officer at the Caldwell Parish Detention Center.
He accepted Christ at an early age and united with the Pleasant Star Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kempite Muhammad; grandson, Noah Citizen; brother, O’Neal Johnson; sister, Georgia Lee Johnson; and niece, Maresha and Regina Johnson.
Ira leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Carolyn Vaughn; five daughters, Barbara Higgins, Iranesha Johnson, LaToya Citizen, Serenity Tatum and Satara Tatum; three sons, Jeremy Harris, Traimaine Tatum and Gerald Tatum; five brothers, Lucious Johnson, Calvin Johnson, Joseph Johnson, Neal Johnson and Bobby Johnson; three sisters, Sandra Johnson, Emma Johnson, and Sherry Johnson; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends, including special brother/friend, Mitch Bratton.
