HORATIO BENTON was born to the union of the late James Edward (Jo Lynn) Nation and Cloristine (Thadies) Benton on December 26,1968 in Monroe, Louisiana. Horatio was reared by his grandparents, George Sr. and Nettie Lee Jones.
He was baptized at an early age into Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Farmerville, Louisiana. He was baptized again recently and joined church at New Daughters of Zion Baptist Church in Monroe, Louisiana, under the leadership of Pastor Jarrod Bottley. He attended church on a regular basis.
Horatio attended Farmerville High School in Farmerville, Louisiana, and was a graduate of the class of 1986. He had a style of his own and was known to always be on point.
Horatio was currently employed at Foster Farms in Farmerville. His coworkers were always glad to see “Detroit”. Detroit was his home away from Louisiana, and he was an avid Detroit Lions fan.
Horatio was a family man that loved spending time with all his people. He made it his business to attend family gatherings and reunions on a regular basis.
In addition to his maternal grandparents, he was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Mr. Lee Dell Nation, Sr., and Mrs. Eva Mae Nation; sisters, June Joyce Miller and Cynthia Benton; brother, Quincy Nation; aunts, Carolyn Nute and Jessie Hamilton; and uncles, Dewayne Nation and Terry Jones.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Honda Word; devoted mother, Cloristine Benton; and stepmother, Jo Lynn Nation; children, Horatio (Dewon) Benton, Jr., Clestine Benton, Jasmaiin Benton, Quindarien (Carla) Price, and Ratio Benton; grandchildren, Jasmyer, Bella, Ce’Lexus, and Icelyn; sisters, Floristine Benton, Naliyah Benton, and Delethea Nation; brothers, Frederick Benton, Thadies Benton, Jr., Jermaine Nation, Kerry (Tiffany) Nation, Kevin (Angela) Nation, DeAngelo Ellison, and Eric (Renae) Ellison; aunts, Bobbie Burch, Marilyn Nation, Evelyn Nation, and Elaine Nation; and uncles, Lee Dell Nation, Jr. (Pop), Gerome Nation, Kenneth (Cynthia) Nation, Thomas (Gwendolyn) Nation, Sr., George (Evelyn) Jones, Jr., Charlie Jones, Wille (Linda) Evans, and Bobby Jones. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss him dearly.
