Obituary

Grace Wiggins Mitchell (nee Kelly) lived a life full of love for family, friends, and God almighty. A nurse by trade, she provided care for others as needed, while asking little in return. She was imbued with a spirit of discernment and charisma; she was beloved by all who were blessed to make her acquaintance. The name Grace is derived from the Latin word gratus, which means ‘pleasing’, ‘beloved’, or ‘favorable.’
She was born Grace Nell Kelly to Bob and Leader Kelly (nee Jones) on December 17th, 1940, in Farmerville, Louisiana. On April 16th, 2022, God decided it was time to call Grace home and she went to see her heavenly father, surrounded by her family and in the comfort of her own home. Her passing has left a void that will never be filled but a legacy that will live on forever. She was and always will be immensely treasured.
She married Robert Wiggins, Sr in 1963, raising seven children, and they loved each other until his death in 1992. Her family was her everything and she provided for and took care of them without fail, even if it meant neglecting her own needs. She had an affinity for complex jigsaw puzzles, playing word games and sewing. She was a kind, generous and compassionate soul. She made her whole family laugh with her acerbic wit and her homespun sayings. Even when she spoke in anger, she did so in a way that prompted smiles upon reflecting on her transitory displeasure. She had an angelic voice and would often sing “There’s A Leak in This Old Building” or “Lord Don’t Move That Mountain.”
She was a staunch advocate for education and pushed her children to gain as much knowledge as possible. As a testament to that, she pursued and attained her nursing degree in 1984, while raising a family and taking care of a household. She had an immense vocabulary and though she was subtle about it, she would not hesitate to “help” when a word was mispronounced or used incorrectly in a sentence.
She is survived by her children, Joseph B. Kelly, Debbie C. Wright (nee Kelly), Wanda R. Jackson, (nee Kelly), Michael W. Kelly, Kerry M. Wiggins, Robert L Wiggins, Jr., Teresa L Wiggins, her sisters Faye Ruth Dixon, June Kelly Carpenter, Ruthell Kelly Pugh, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
