Estelle Taylor Jackson was born to the late Ruby Lee Clayton and Jerry Brown in Wisner, Louisiana. She was baptized at a very young age in Wisner, Louisiana. In the late ‘50s she joined Free Gift Baptist church under Reverend B. J. Washington. Later she united with the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She rejoined the Greater Free Gift Baptist Church on Sunday, May 16, 2010 under the present pastor, Bishop Rodney McFarland I. She remained a faithful member until her death.
She was educated in the Monroe Colored School system, later receiving her degree attending night classes at Carroll High School.
She was employed by Olan Kraft Paper Mill in the late ‘60s until it was repurchased, after which she started her own business, Joe N Stels Diner on Renwick Street during the late ‘70s. She retired as a cook from Lincoln Park Nursing Home.
She was a long-standing member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 521 where she served as President of the Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Albert and Louella Taylor; parents, Ruby Lee Clayton and Jerry Brown; husband, Joe Jackson, Sr.; son, Charles Darnell Blanson; six siblings; two great-grandchildren; and her best friend, Ruth Jackson.
She leaves to mourn: her four children, Albert Lorenzo Taylor, Louella Taylor, Ronald D. Taylor (Barbara), and Carol Strawder (James); three siblings, Bobby “Barron” Taylor (Barbara), Carolyn Coleman, and Paula Nweke; several cousins; 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
