Sister Erma Mae Monroe was born on January 22, 1950, to the late Marion and Leolder McDowell in Franklin Parish. She gave her life to Christ at an early age at New Zion Baptist Church. She was a faithful member of Cloud Creek Missionary Baptist Church up until her homegoing.
She graduated from Esther Toombs High School in May of 1968 and then went on to attend Grambling State University. After attending Grambling State University, she was employed by the Richland Parish school system, where she worked at all three schools. She retired after being there 37 years.
Sister Erma was involved in various community activities which included the Girl Scouts, planning church trips, and helping organize community softball games. She was a member of the Active Ladies Club, Women on a Mission, and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 75.
She had a passion for sewing, crafting, and wedding planning. In her spare time, she loved to make and sell hot tamales and caramel popcorn.
She is preceded in death by four sisters: Etta Denise McDowell, Normagean Brown, Roseanor McDowell, and Christine Rancher; and one brother, Elmore Berry.
Sister Erma leaves to mourn, her husband of 55 years, Nathan Monroe; three daughters, LaStacey (Dexter), Shonica (Ross), and Natalie, all of Delhi, Louisiana; five grandchildren, Nathan Monroe, Kendra Jones, Christopher Monroe, Rayland Ross, and Mekayla Ross; three sisters, Marzetta Johnson, Veronica McDowell, and Etta (Sam) Boston; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
