Elzatter Mathis-Tyler Obituary

Elzatter was born September 4, 1956, to the lovely late Lela Mae Brass and the late Jim Mathis. She was baptized under the leadership of L.M. Major at Holly Grove Baptist Church in Wisner, Louisiana. Later in years, she moved her membership to the Greater Free Gift. Elzatter started at the Haring Pride Catfish, where she worked for over twenty years. She later moved to Monroe, Louisiana, and worked over 20 years at The Kitchen Rest after she took care of a sweetie, the late Verdell Moore. She married Willie Tyler.

Elzatter was preceded in death by her mother, Lela Mae Brass; father, Jim Mathis; husband, Willie Tyler; brothers, Jessie Brass, Uzia Atkins, Hemp Atkins, Thomas Langston, and Charles Williams; sisters, Josephine Brass, Mattie Atkins, and Janie Mathis; lovely son-in-law, James Shaw; and a special friend, Clyde Hughes.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her sons, Ricky Mathis (Lesha), Christopher Mathis, and Kendrick Mathis (Latorell), all of Monroe, LA, and Larry Mathis (Crikina); three daughters, Sharon Shaw (James), Tanya Johnson (DeVarrace), and LaQuita, all of Monroe, LA; sisters, Emoline Brass, Montoria Atkins, and Lasandra Simpson (Ervin), all of Monroe, LA, Ann Mathis and Annie Criff, both of Wisner, LA, Roberta Mathis and Minnie Criff, both of Houston, TX, and Betty Robertson of Monroe, LA; brothers, Curtis Atkins, Jim Criff, Aaron Mathis, and Johnny Mathis, all of Wisner, LA; two goddaughters, LaQuinsha Smart and Ava Johnson, both of Wisner, LA; special sisters she loved dearly, Wanda Collins and Susan Hughes; dear friend, Kendralyn Garrett; forty-two grandchildren; thirteen great-grands; seventeen great-great-grands; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
