Elizabeth Ann Washington Barnett

Mother Barnett was born on Thursday, January 20, 1927. She lived 93 YEARS, 352 days. She transitioned from Earth to reward on Thursday, January 07, 2021 at 10:56 a.m.

Mother Elizabeth Ann Washington Barnett was the seventh of eleven children born to the late Thomas and Essie Sample Washington in Selma, Alabama. At an early age, her family relocated to Oak Ridge, Louisiana. It was there that she received some formal and informal education. On April 26, 1942 in the company of witnesses, Elizabeth united in marriage to her beloved husband of over 44 and a half years, LeRoy (affectionally called Roy) Barnett. This young energetic, hard-working, loving couple relocated to Monroe, Louisiana. There these beautiful parents reared their family of nine children, 4 boys and 5 girls. They are Henry (Norma), Osetta, LeRoy Jr. (Elaine), Minnie (Melvin), Sandra (Robert), Emma, Karl (Kathryn), Michael (Rickketa), and Leslie (Bruce).

As the family grew, the couple's love for God grew as well. They united in faith with the Saint Mary Missionary Baptist Church in 1947 under the pastoral care of Charlie H. Reed, Pastor H. F. Richardson, Pastor Melvin Franklin, and currently Pastor Kenneth Nolley. Brother Barnett was crowned Deacon where he served faithfully before his transition on November 18,1986. Although she missed her beloved spouse, Mother Barnett remained faithful to her LORD, actively serving God as an usher for about 79 years.

She taught us many scriptures such as Psalm 23, Psalm 121, and many others including Psalm 84:10, and also served as Youth Usher Board Leader for several years where she led us by example. Mother Barnett has served as an Advisor to the Pastor's Aide Committee; she received the Woman of Excellence Award from the North Louisiana Old Line Association Women's Department on March 27, 2009 and a Certificate of Appreciation from Pastor Nolley and St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church on February 11, 2018. Because of her diligent faithful love for GOD, family, church, and neighbors, some called her a Proverb 31 woman of God. (Prov.31:10-31).

In addition to Mother Barnett, she was also known as Mom, Momma, Madea, Grandma, Granny, Auntie, Sister, Libba, Sweetie, Dear, Mam-Maw, Liz, Lizzie, and Queen to name a few. Her very name meant, my God is an oath, my God is abundant. She lived a life of abundance. She gave selflessly for her family, church, friends, and neighbors. She loved and enjoyed fellowshipping with people of ALL ages. She enjoyed preparing tasty meals and always freely shared food with others before herself. She loved gardening, yard and house work as well. And she poured her heart into ALL who would listen and receive from her. She prayed that GOD would bless and use those she trained for his glory. She remained faithful to Sunday School and church attendance until her health declined. Although her body was challenged, her confession remained strong. Isaiah 53:5, I am the healed of the LORD," she would declare.

How grateful we are for Mother! We do thank and praise GOD for the rich lessons that she has taught us. She poured into us, and taught us how to pour into others always reminding us to walk in love and peace.

She was preceded in transition by her parents, Thomas and Essie Washington; her beloved spouse, LeRoy Barnett; siblings, Ola Mae Crosby, Willie Mae Washington, Mertha Lee Washington, Rosetta Hollins, Nathaniel Washington, Louis Washington, Herman Washington, Freddie Bea Sampson, Mildred Washington; and two grandsons, Cedric L. Barnett and Andre' L. Barnett.

We will miss her physical presence with us, but we will always treasure her love, generous spirit, and wisdom that she imparted to us, as she spoke to our hearts. Left to carry on her legacy are her nine children and their spouses, her brother George (Ira), 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 23 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, friends, her sweet neighbors, Pastor & Mrs. K. Nolley, St. Mary MBC families, a God son, Jarrius Jackson; a God daughter, Francis Cunningham, and all God's children who knew her.
