Elder Hilton Louis, Jr. Obituary

On August 22, 1948 in Rayville, La. to the union of the late Harriet Warren Louis and Hilton Louis, Sr. was born their first child, Hilton Louis, Jr. Hilton was a precocious child and was always into something. At an early age he followed in his father’s footsteps and was trained how to be the man of the house. As the eldest child he was taught how to be responsible and to look out for his younger siblings. Hilton was the oldest of eight children. The family left Rayville in 1958 and moved to Monroe, Louisiana for better opportunity. Hilton thrived in school and graduated as a member of the Carroll High School Class of 1966.

Hilton grew up in the church and was a member of the Heavenly Travelers singing group. The group sang from church to church, and Hilton played the guitar and sang high tenor. During one of the singing programs he met and fell in love with Shirley Mae Calloway. They got married on June 1, 1971 having eloped together. They eventually moved to Dallas, Texas, where Hilton started employment with General Motors Corporation. As their life grew, to this union was born four natural children and one adoption, LaTyara, Hilton Christopher, Fredrick, Jeremy, and LaTonya. When General Motors opened operations in Monroe, LA, Hilton moved back home and they began their life in Monroe. They eventually settled together and attended Empire Church of Deliverance (late Rev. Jim Moore) and then to the Holy House of Prayer (late Pastor John Burns), and eventually followed and supported his younger brother (late Superintendent Donald Louis) in ministry in the founding of Unity Church of God In Christ. He remained there until General Motors closed operations in Monroe and Hilton moved to Alabama and eventually to Jackson, Mississippi where he worked for GM a total of 45 years until his retirement in March 2020.

In 2013, Hilton heard the voice of God calling to begin a ministry of his own. He shared his vision with his family and was encouraged to step out on his faith. That same year he purchased the building at 1803 Ruth St. and began holding services for Heavenly Travelers Ministries. One of his proudest moments came in July 2017 when he was ordained with his eldest son by the Presiding Bishop of the Church of God In Christ. He served faithfully in his office as Pastor until God called him home.

He is reunited with his wife of 48 years, Shirley Mae Calloway Louis. He is also preceded in death by parents Harriet Warren Louis and Hilton Louis Sr. and siblings Charles Ray Louis and Donald Ray Louis.
