On October 5, 1937, Effie Mae Leggins was born to the late Alvin and Beulah McDowell. She was baptized at an early age at Mount Zion Baptist Church.
Effie was married to her late loving husband, Huey P. Leggins, for 62 years. From this union was born six children, Judy Green of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Jimmie (Liza) Leggins, Glenda Leggins (Charles), Carrie Leggins, Regina Washington, and Beulah Hedgemon (Robert), all of Delhi, Louisiana.
Effie leaves to cherish her memories: her six children; sisters, Lois Marie McDowell and Exxie V. McDowell, both of Tallulah, Louisiana, Annie Banks of Vicksburg, Mississippi, and Velsie Tucker of Las Vegas, Nevada; her brother, Henry McDowell of Las Vegas, Nevada; 25 grandchildren; 47 greatgrandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends; some special grandchildren, Robert, Jameika, Zalen, and Devin Leggins; and a special niece, Marie Ann Williams.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, and grandchildren, Abrecus Leggins, Adrielle Leggins, Payden Leggins, JhaKaden Leggins, Phylicia Leggins, Ze’andrea Leggins, Christa Orange, Malik Green, Doris McDowell, Dora Dean McCallup, and Alvin McDowell. Effie leaves us many wonderful moments and teaching skills - Andrea McDowell, MC McDowell, Kennon McDowell, and M. McDowell.
