Edward James " Bo Pete" Gibson Obituary

Edward James Gibson was born in Chatham, Louisiana, on February 7, 1936, to the late Reverend Jim Gibson and Reasie Bell Gibson. He departed this life on March 4, 2025, after illness struck. He graduated from Union Central High School “Class of 1954.” His career was in industry work where he worked in Alameda, California, for over forty years. After retiring, he returned back home to Clarks, Louisiana, in 1999 where he served as Alderman for the last two years.

He was baptized and accepted Christ at an early age. He previously attended Asberry Baptist Church in Chatham, Louisiana, where he served in the choir and ushered. He later joined and faithfully attended Harmonia Baptist Church in Olla, LA where he was Minister of Music and active in Sunday School. He also did handywork around the church and helped keep up the grounds.

Edward’s nickname was Bo Pete, which means he blows his horn. He loved to sing and loved to have fun. He recorded with the “Oakland Silvertones,” where he is known for his lead in several songs including “Listen to The Lambs” and “Peace & Happiness”- just to name a few. He is also well known for hitting those high notes.

He was always the life of the party at every family gathering....and don’t forget about that KoolAid pie. He was proud of that! He was also known to put his own spin on every song that he sang. He was pretty nice, but very direct and would tell you just what he thought about everything. We are definitely going to miss Him!!!

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Reasie Gibson; daughter, Sonya L Gibson; and siblings, Eva Trent, Fannie Jordan, Mattie Ellis, Melvia Green, Mary Louise Gibson, Cleveland Gibson, James C Gibson, Reuben Gibson, Richard James Gibson, Sr., and Thomas James Gibson, Sr.

He leaves to cherish his memories: sister, Mary Lewis (Elijah); two sons, Barry Henderson and Leonard Gibson (Vanessa); two daughters, Sherri Nation and Sharlon Gibson; Godson, Eddie “Skimp” Cheffin; a very special niece, Patricia (Patty Cake) James; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grand-child. He is also survived by a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
