Dwanna Lashell Powell

Dwanna LaShell Powell passed away Saturday, September 9, 2023, at St. Francis Medical Center surrounded by family and friends.

Dwanna was born August 11, 1975, in Monroe, Louisiana, to Lorine Powell Jones and Matthew Washington. From a young age until her death, she was raised by Frank Jones, Jr., whom she referred to as “Dad.”

Dwanna accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Reverend H.F. Richardson at New Zion Baptist Church of Delhi, Louisiana.

Dwanna graduated from Delhi High School in 1993. She received her bachelor’s degree at Dallas Baptist University and furthered her education at the University of Texas at Arlington where she received her master’s degree. She made her home in Arlington, Texas, where she was a senior client relationship specialist at First Command and a licensed realtor for the state of Texas.

Dwanna had a smile that would light up any room she entered. She was a dedicated daughter, loving sister, and friend. She was the funny aunt who loved spending time with her nieces and nephews.

Dwanna was preceded in death by her father, Matthew Washington; maternal grandparents, Willie and Catherine Powell; paternal grandfather, Reverend Frank Jones, Sr.; and sister Shonica Jones.

Dwanna leaves to cherish her memories: her parents, Frank and Lorine Jones of Delhi, LA; five sisters, Shanika Jones, Candace (Anwan) Dykes of Delhi, LA, Shameka (Joseph) Gee of Rayville, LA, La Shonda “Kitty” Thompson of Cypress, TX, and Nakeisha (Dennis) Mosley of Humble, TX; three brothers, Sherman Thompson of Hockley, TX, Matthew (Shelitria) Thompson of Cypress, TX, and Frank Jones III of Delhi, LA; godsons, Shannon Gray, Jr., and Shiloh Gray, both of Rayville, LA, and Deldrick Fritz, Sr., of Longview, TX; special friends, Lamar Brown and Julia Love; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
