Dorothy Gaines

Dorothy Mae Watkins was born December 30, 1938, to her proud parents, Anna and Willis Watkins, in Sondheimer, LA. When she was three years old, her family moved to Tallulah, LA.

Dorothy attended Madison Training School. She married Cleveland Gaines on August 7, 1960. To this union, seven children were born.

Dorothy was baptized in 1985. This began her 34 years of faith with Jehovah God. Dorothy was a devoted wife and homemaker. She loved traveling, doing crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family. She also had a love for cooking and exchanging recipes.
 

Dorothy, a devoted Jehovah Witness, died on Thursday, December 26, 2019. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Willis Watkins and Anna Doyle; husband of 57 years, Cleveland Gaines; daughter, Shelia Gaines; brothers, Elijah and Robert Watkins; sister, Marie Ranson; and grandchildren, Andrumeda Gaines and Kembra Rone.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories: daughters, Lorraine (Rufus) McClodden, Linda (Michael) Washington, and Wanda Gilmer; sons, Lee Dennis (Susie) Gaines, Robert (Tereatha) Gaines, and Stanley (Glen) Gaines; sisters, Gertrude Washington and Flora Johnson; sisters-in-law, Hazel Harrison, Dorothy Guice, Florida Gaines, Thelma Robinson, and Rosie Lee Haynes; brothers-in-law, Joseph Harrison and Willie Gaines; 19 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and close friends, Cleo Mallory and Hattie Johnson.
