Derrick Untay Ward was born on February 23, 1978, in Monroe, Louisiana, to Ruby Ward and Andy Joe Caldwell.
He confessed and accepted Christ at an early age. He later joined and was baptized at the Greater Free Gift Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop Rodney McFarland.
“Cooney,” as everyone called him, was a devoted husband, loving father, and grandfather. He loved the outdoors, dogs, and music. His favorite things to do were to sit on the porch, play dominoes, and go fishing.
On February 16, 2011, Derrick married Tashanna L. Gibson; they remained devoted until his passing.
Derrick was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mary “Bea” Wrotten; father-in-law, Deacon Donald Ray Gibson, Sr.; and grandchild, Josiah Kyrie Gibson-Eleam.
Derrick leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Tashanna L. Gibson Ward; four daughters, Lanechia Gibson, Taqueshia Gibson, Derionna Gibson, and Corderrick Greer; one son, Qunderrick (Sheaskkie) “tete” Gibson; mother, Ruby Ward; nine grandchildren, Cadence, Kendyn, KJ, Javarro, Journei, Kymbree, Raylan, Qualani, and Tony; three brothers, Bertrand Ward, Brandon Harris, and Rodriguez Harris; four sisters, Mashonda Harris, Yolanda Harris, Renisha Harris, and Kawana Harris; and a host of nieces, nephws, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
