Derrick Lamar Brown Obituary

Derrick Lamar Brown was born on November 28, 1982, to Emmanuel Brown and JoeAnn Brown-Shirley. He was the third child of the Great E&J the hardway. Derrick found Christ at a young age and was baptized at St. Luke Baptist Church, where he was on the youth usher committee. Derrick was a 2002 graduate of Carroll High School, where he was a standout student and football player. After high school Derrick moved to Atlanta, Georgia, to be closer to his mother. Derrick was employed at American Drywall company until he decided to work for himself. Derrick became a contracted truck driver and started traveling the United States. Derrick was a man that loved his parents and siblings strongly. His bond with his mother was like no other. He loved his mom harder than anyone on this Earth. He loved and respected his mother’s advice and opinions, regardless if he wanted the real or not. He always said “Mama you’re right!”

Derrick loved his family and would give a stranger the shirt off his back. Derrick’s quote was, “I Love who Loves me!” A quote he made up and instilled in others that was around him. If you had a seat in his life then that meant he really “messed” with you. (Can’t say his exact words), but you get it.

Derrick was very protective of his family. He didn’t play any games when it came to his three sisters. He loved them dearly. He had a very special and unique bond with each one of them, but most of all he was their PROTECTOR. Derrick loved the relationships he had with each of his brothers. They all loved hard and believed in the same thing: protect the women in the family. The bonds they shared were all different, but they don’t play about each other. They were real life homeboys. Derrick loved his dad for raising him to be the man he was. He always loved saying, “I thank my dad for the man I am.” “Never back down and stand on what you mean.”

He was preceded in death by his brother, Cedrick Latron Brown; niece, Emonie Brown; grandparents, Joe Lee Richard and Mary Lee Nelson; grandparents, Morris Brown and Juanita Brown; two uncles; and a cousin that will be waiting on him at the gates of Heaven!

Derrick leaves to cherish his lovely memories: mother, JoeAnn Brown-Shirley (Ernest Shirley) of Douglasville, GA; father, Emmanuel Brown of Monroe, LA; sisters, Angel Richard of Monroe, LA, Frozean Brown of Douglasville, GA, and April Brown- Smith (Tremaine Smith) of Villa Rica, GA; brothers, Emmanuel Brown, Jr. (LaTesha Brown) of Monroe, LA, Fredrick Brown of Monroe, LA, and Joe Brown of Douglasville, GA; godsister, Calisha Cobbs of Monroe, LA; three children, Emon Washington, LaShayla Washington, and LaDashia Taylor, all of Atlanta, GA; seven nieces; nine nephews; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends whom he loved dearly. As Derrick would say to all that Love him, “I Love Who Loves Me” BlackOut!!
