Delorise Vaughn Lewis-Turner was born on April 1, 1944, in Mangham, Louisiana, to the late Jeff Vaughn, Jr., and Maggie McFarland. “Dee,” as she was fondly called by her family,
accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at China Grove Baptist Church in Mangham, Louisiana, under the leadership of Pastor Cooper.
Upon moving to Monroe, she joined Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor F.D. Nash. Delorise relocated to Chicago, Illinois, and joined New Salem Baptist Church at that time. After retiring and moving back to Monroe, Louisiana, she attended Tried Stone Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Auburn Robinson, Sr., until her death.
Delorise was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Willie Jenkins, Sr.; brother, Willie Jenkins, Jr.; and her sister, Ruby Vaughn.
She is survived by: one special aunt, Emma Burks of Chicago, Illinois; three brothers, Jimmie (Artmasue) Jenkins, Sr., and Richard (Amanda) Jenkins, Sr., both of Monroe, Louisiana, and Arthur Gross of Ferriday, Louisiana; two sisters, Bettye (Eugene) Smith and Sylvia Greer-McKinney (Jonathan) both of Monroe, Louisiana; stepdaughter, Denise Williams of California; stepson, Allan Taylor of California; godson, Kaigen Washington of Houston, Texas; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and close friends who will love and cherish her in memory.
