Obituary

Deacon Prince Albert Calloway, Jr., “Cowboy,” was born on September 24, 1956, to the late Prince Albert Calloway, Sr., and Katie Lee Harris Calloway. He was the thirteenth child of fifteen children, with eight brothers and six sisters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kenyett Brown, and several siblings, Benard, Roosevelt, John, Irene, Teresa, Willie, Shirley Mae, and Manuel “Wolf Man” Calloway, Sr.

On Monday, July 10, 2023, Deacon Prince Albert Calloway, Jr., heard the call from the Lord and he answered gladly. Deacon Prince never met a stranger, he was a people-person, even if you felt down, he would say, “it’s gonna be alright.” The family left Rayville and came to Monroe, LA, and moved to Booker T., where he attended Carroll High School and received his diploma in the year of 1977. After finishing high school, he lived in Texas with his brother, Manual Calloway, where he became a licensed plumber for fifteen years in Dallas. Then he left Dallas, Texas, and his family moved to Seattle, Washington, where he got a job at the civic center and became supervisor for eleven years or more. He later moved his family back to Monroe where he became self-employed as a plumber. In 1979 he became a father for the first time when Kitisha was born. He married Rose Mary Brown and they had two children, Kitisha Calloway Jones and Prince Albert Calloway, III.

Then he married Venetta Sadie Cockerm on May 26, 2012 in Monroe, LA. When it came to family he loved them. No matter who needed him, he would stop and go to them no matter where they were at. In his spare time he loved tending to his horses, hunting dogs, and going hunting. Prince served faithfully in two churches as deacons. The New Zion Baptist Church of Rayville, under the leadership of Reverend Tom Baker and the Greater Free Gift Baptist Church of Monroe, under the leadership of his brother-in-law, Bishop Rodney McFarland, I.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his lovely wife of thirteen years, Venetta Sadie Calloway; children, Kitisha (Dejuan) Jones and Prince Albert Calloway, III (Ronesha); seven grandchildren; brothers, Leroy Calloway, David Calloway (Josie) of Dallas, TX, and Fred Calloway (Geneva); sisters, Ora Lee (Lemmie) Winston of Seattle, WA, Florence Smith, and Ophelia Lockett; brothers-in-law, Billy Cockerm, Morris Cockerm (Stephanie) of Hinesville, GA, and Bishop Rodney McFarland, I (Nikki), Lyndon Cockerm of Savannah, GA; God-children, Chantell Morgan of Baton Rouge, LA, Brooklyn Abraham, Madison Nelson, and Josiah South; aunts, Tobithia Calloway and Vallena Winston (Elonzo); four special God-brothers, Bennie Brown, Jr., James Brown, Danny Brown, and Jimmy Brown; two special God-sisters, Hope Brown McGee and Yolonda Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
