Darrell’s Life

Brother Darrell Levette Johnson, also known as “DJ”, was born July 17, 1961 to Solomon Johnson, Jr. and Geraldine Henderson Johnson in Monroe, Louisiana.

Darrell attended Carroll High School in Monroe, Louisiana. He was a graduate of the Class of 1979.

Darrell grew up in Calvary Baptist Church, where his grandfather Reverend Solomon Johnson, Sr. was the pastor. He joined Greater Free Gift Missionary Baptist Church on May 19, 2019, where he was baptized.

After high school, he began working at Flav-O-Rich, Inc. until 1991. He later began working at the Monroe Regional Airport, where he stayed for over 20 years until his health failed him.

Darrell was always a hardworking man. To know him was to love him. His humble and caring spirit will always be remembered. He will always be remembered for being a great father and grandfather.

Darrell’s mother and father, Geraldine and Solomon Johnson, and his brother, Tyrone Johnson preceded him in death.

Darrell leaves to cherish his memories: his four beloved children, Darrell Sledge, Calisha Cobbs, and Kencunyea Warfield, all of Monroe, Louisiana, and  Ramona Cobbs of Sioux City, Iowa; two sisters, Connie Johnson-Taylor and Deborah Marshall both of Monroe, Louisiana; two aunts, Bertha Menyweather and Leola Henderson both of Monroe, Louisiana; a uncle, David (Barbara Ann) Johnson of Monroe, Louisiana; a beloved friend, Belinda Langford of West Monroe, Louisiana; and a host of other relatives and friends.
