2 Timothy 4:6-8 King James Version
6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all of them also that love his appearing.
Brother Darnell Menyweather was born to the late Clarence and Evelyn Menyweather. He was the 7th of 12 children. He departed this life on Friday, January 21, 2022, at Ochsner LSU Medical Center.
Darnell accepted Christ at an early age. Darnell attended J.S. Clark Elementary and Carroll High School. He was also employed at Cooper Buick for over 30 years until his health started to fail. Darnell loved his family and enjoyed them, especially during holidays and weekends. He treated everyone in his life special. If he called you friend, then you were.
Darnell would have friends and family over to listen to music as he loved to talk about his many life-changing stories. But in February 1987, his life changed and was never the same for he met the love of his life. Darnell and Shirley shared over thirty-four years together, twenty in Holy Matrimony.
Darnell was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Evelyn Menyweather; two brothers, Clarence and William Menyweather; four sisters, Annie and Clara Menyweather, Jean Fletcher, and Mary Lee Carr.
Darnell leaves to cherish his precious memories: his wife, Shirley Menyweather; three daughters, Tamaka Walker (Rodney) and Latoria Walker, both of Monroe, Louisiana; and Shalonda Black-Hodge of Mansfield, Texas; one stepdaughter, Shounda Walker of Monroe, Louisiana; four stepsons, Larry (Tiffany) Cooper, Brandon Collins, and Steve Copeland, all of Monroe, Louisiana; and Octavio (Yashawnda) Cooper of Shreveport, Louisiana; and twelve grandchildren.
Darnell also leaves to cherish his memories: three brothers, Sammy Lee Menyweather and Gilson (Gloria) Menyweather of Monroe, Louisiana; and Robert Menyweather (Maryilyn) of Dallas, Texas; three sisters, Loretta (Eugene) Hall of Monroe, Louisiana; and Sadie Sims and Sandra Menyweather of Terrell, Texas; two special grandsons that he raised like his own, Latavian Walker and Marcus Smith, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
