“Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me.”
– Psalm 23:4
Mr. Curtis Edward Simmons was born on September 30, 1949, to A. J. Simmons and Ruby Washington Simmons who preceded him in death. Curtis departed this life on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at the Haven Nursing Center in Columbia, LA.
At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized into the Evening Star B. C. There, he regularly attended church and was an active member of the choir until he graduated and left home. He was a 1967 graduate of Union Central High School where he excelled in all academic areas. He was a good debator and athlete. After high school, he attended Southern University.
Curtis was an avid sports fan and was a member of a semi-pro baseball travelling team in Alexandria, LA, where he lived and worked. Curtis was very kind-hearted and loving and would give you the shirt off his back. He also loved playing dominoes with his friends. In later years, he joined in holy matrimony to Pam Ocdise. After retirement from Texas Gas, he moved back home and served as a handyman in his community.
No children were born to this union. He had five brother who preceded him in death, Lonell, Alvin, Jimmie, Laverne, and Bobby.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his three brothers, Anderson J. Simmons (Shelly) of Southfield, MI, Ronald Simmons of Monroe, LA, and Arthur Simmons of Shreveport, LA; one sister, Laura Simmons Roquemore (Laverne) of Columbia, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
