Cornelious James Welch, known as “Nippy,” was born on October 19, 1953, in Horseshoe Lake, Louisiana to the late James Parnell Welch and Silverstein Dubose. He was raised by his father, Parnell, and grandparents, Cornelious and Martha Welch, in Horseshoe Lake, Louisiana.
He attended Myles Elementary, Junior High, and graduated from Myles High School, class of 1971.
He entered the Army National Guard upon graduation. His career then moved to intrastate truck driver, heavy equipment operator, and forklift, backhoe, and machine operator. After retirement he decided to go into his own business, so he opened his own towing SVS, called Welch’s Towing.
Cornelious accepted Christ at an early age and joined with his family Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. A.T. Thomas and was baptized in Horseshoe Lake. As an adult he joined Refuge Church under Pastor Inez Walker. In later years he joined with the 1st House of Prayer, Praise Worship and Deliverance Center Pastor Rosie Edwards. He was a strong man of faith and did not give up even to the end. He loved God, his family, friends, and his church family. He was a loving father, husband, and cousin. He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Nancy Cook Welch; several children, seven sisters; eight brothers; several nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
