Cleo Jefferson was born November 24, 1947, to the late Bobby and Sarah Johnson Jefferson in Monroe, Louisiana. Bub, as he was fondly called, was the tenth of 15 children. He was quite the family character. While he would keep you laughing at his comical antics, we all knew he probably had just a few too many beverages of choice under his belt. He would talk so fast, one wouldn’t know what the conversation was pertaining to.
An avid Bible reader, his many conversations would be about God and challenging all that would contest his knowledge.
Bub was quite the artist as well, he could be seen drawing the most beautiful women one could imagine. I mean he would dress them in gowns and makeup as if they were runway ready.
His formative education began at the Swayze Elementary School in Monroe, Louisiana, and ended his secondary schooling at Richwood High School, Monroe, Louisiana. After graduation, he attended Grambling College, as it was called then, majoring in Speech and Drama.
He was baptized at an early age under the leadership of the late Reverend J. H. Housely and was active in Sunday School and the Senior Choir. He was employed at the Plymouth Rubber Company in West Monroe, Louisiana, where he worked until his retirement.
A family-oriented man, Bub would always gather the younger family members together to engage them in parties and talent shows of all sorts. A jokester, he would give all of them nicknames that would be sure to anger them.
He championed his later years while being incapacitated in nursing facilities for over 15 years. Yes, the staff knew he was on a rampage as they became targets of his really colorful language. Each visitation, he would end it by saying, “Pray for me”. And so we did.
The eternal rest has come for Bub, so we release him to the Father that brought him to the world. We, the family, thank all of you for your prayers and acts of kindness during these critical times this family faces.
